Freeform Five's Strangest Things album was greeted with glowing reviews everywhere from The Evening Standard to Dazed And Confused upon its release last year. Unfortunately, the critical love didn't translate into record sales and one of Britain's most interesting pop acts remains virtually unknown. With their hints of Prince and Scissor Sisters, it's really quite difficult to see how. The highlight of the album, for me, is the track recorded with dancehall legend Rodney "Bounty Killer" Price, Eeeeaaoowww. The Poor People's Governor goes through his favourite "cross, angry, miserable" routine while Anu Pillai works up an excellent electro-funk backing.

Sticking with the theme, a fantastic single from undisputed dancehall queen Lady Saw. Best known over here for her work with Missy Elliot, Vitamin C and No Doubt, Saw is the First Lady of Jamaica's musically thrilling but ridiculously macho ragga culture. Her filthy mind and roughneck delivery mean she can compete with the best of them though. I've Got Your Man's a much poppier effort than she might usually come up with, having one eye on the American market, but it's none the worse for that. It's from 2004's Strip-Tease album.
